We combined our deep experience and the literature on team effectiveness into our SPACE for Teams™ model of a healthy team:

  • Psychological safety has emerged from the research as a critical ingredient of any healthy team.

  • Team members need to know WHY the team exists and what it's there to do. When people are connected to a larger purpose, they are more motivated and less ego-driven.

  • All teams have norms, but some norms are unspoken, unintentional, and unproductive. We work on designing clear, value-driven team norms that set the standard for behavior on the team.

  • For a team to be greater than the sum of its parts, every member needs to understand why they are special and needed. "Contribution" is about finding the overlap between strengths and roles.

  • Within organizations, change truly is the only constant. Evolution is about establishing rituals and practices for how a team navigates and embraces change.
